Island artist Elizabeth Whelan will be creating snow sculptures for adults using graphite and charcoal (or dry colored media such as colored pencils and pastels) at the Vineyard Haven Library on Sunday, January 28th from 1:30 p.m. Teach a drawing class on sketching. Vineyard Haven Library hosts the Great Decisions Foreign Policy Discussion Group.
It will be held both in-person and online on Thursday, February 1st at 6pm. The eight-week program meets every Thursday in person or via Zoom. The Steamship Agency has temporarily postponed the start of summer vehicle reservations for the public until normal operations resume. At least this time they seem to be doing the right thing.
Although I haven't been able to attend services at West Tisbury Church for a while, I was happy to sign up to receive the pastor's sermons by mail. Paper and stamps were expensive. I just found out that you can receive it by email. It's better for everyone, so we changed it immediately. We need to find other ways to reduce costs for nonprofits that also benefit the climate problem.
I just learned that my father's birthday was on Tuesday the 30th, 152 years ago. I was already feeling old. But it helps a little to remember that he was 68 years old when I was born. And then I went to see an afternoon movie with my girlfriend, and the first time I wore lipstick, it was pale pink, of course. I was told sternly, “Only actresses wear lipstick.'' I sent this to my children and grandchildren. Now we all live in different times.
On Saturday, Caroline Davey received a large balloon filled with birthday wishes. Happy birthday to Suzanne Kennedy on Monday. Susie Thurber is throwing a party on Wednesday.
