When Jenn and John Park decided to take over their local Wag and Wash, the Highlands Ranch couple wanted to keep their pets pampered and healthy and give owners a chance to connect with their pets. I wanted to give.
“Washing your own dog is hard work,'' said John. “But it's also a very bonding experience. It really helps the animals understand that they are valued.”
For many years, the Park family and their dogs were customers of Wag and Wash on Reserve Parkway. Then, in 2019, the owners asked the couple if they would be interested in purchasing the place.
Entrepreneurial as they are, the Parks jumped at the chance. Jen started working at the store, learning the ins and outs of the business, and despite the pandemic, became the owner in December 2020.
Over the past three years, the couple has invested in improved innovations, including expanding their grooming salon.
In light of these improvements, the park held its grand reopening late last year, operating a full-service grooming salon, self-service pet wash, and one-stop neighborhood facility offering a variety of products.
“We just want to be able to reach more pets,” Jen said. “We make sure they receive proper care and grooming and appropriate self-cleaning options so they can strengthen their bond.”
In addition to cleaning, all of our experienced groomers provide specialized services such as nail trimming, ear cleaning, and more. Pet cleaners also provide pet parents with aprons, shampoo, conditioner, and brushes, and clean everything up when they're done.
In addition to pet bakery, toys, apparel, collars and leashes, many veterinarians and breeders now offer products for both dogs and cats because they want pet owners to know there are alternatives, Jen said. They also carry products from several major brands that they recommend. Delivery or curbside pickup available.
Park also strives to help pet owners become educated about nutrition and supplements, and sometimes brings in distributors to talk directly with customers.
“It’s all about the puppies,” Jen said. “At the end of the day, while we love our human customers, it's really all about the puppies.”
The store primarily has dogs, but Park does have one cat clientele. The location has cat declawing equipment and hopes to expand services for both dogs and cats with additional expansion work expected to be completed by summer.
When the Parks first began managing the store, they wanted to establish connections with other community organizations. They partner with local taphouses, sponsor events for the Highlands Ranch Community Association, and employ students from Thunder Ridge High School to ensure the store is sanitized and cleaned.
We are also collecting donations for the Colorado Pet Pantry, a food bank for family pets.
