Rats are highly trainable and are said to be ideal pets.
LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Looking for a furry friend? The Millersville University Psychology Department has 16 female rats available for adoption.
Rodents were the subject of behavioral research during the spring semester. They are currently looking for good homes and are said to be friendly and good-tempered.
The department has had success finding homes for rats over the past few years, and hopes this trend will continue.
“They feel like they've done their duty,” said Kelly Bana, associate professor of psychology. It's time to put it in,” he said.
“After the last batch, I adopted two of them and they are now my pets. They are really great pets, like little puppies. They can remember their names and learn their habits. ”[s]So they're really fun pets,” said Olivia Kleinak, a third-year student and lab assistant at Millersville University.
The agency hopes potential adopters will adopt more than one rat, as rats are social creatures.
Rats are highly trainable and are said to be ideal pets.
Those interested should note the proper care and preparation the rats require, the school said. The Department of Psychology provided a webpage filled with tips and tricks about the basics of rat breeding, including the average cost of materials needed and the importance of stimulating rats and ensuring socialization.
These necessary arrangements include a cage large enough to house the rat and provide the rat with space and exercise equipment, appropriate pet bedding, an understanding of how to keep the rat clean and healthy, and plenty of That includes toys, the university said.
In addition, potty training is also recommended, as rats can be potty trained if their owners have the time and patience.
Anyone interested in adoption should be sure to read this webpage to learn everything they can to help give these rats the best possible home.
Applications will be reviewed by the Department of Psychology Animal Laboratory Director. After the application has been reviewed, each potential owner will be contacted and from there will be required to provide a veterinarian or other professional recommendation.
