It is said that the human body is designed to move. But when you come face to face with the dark side of the 9-to-5, the struggle becomes all too real. Creative workers like Yannick Reid are finding that their workdays are getting longer and their sedentary lifestyles are becoming too comfortable. So he decided it was time to make a change. Since then, he has been working on his fitness and enjoying the natural fruits of his efforts.
the lead speaks Lifestyle“The nature of my job required me to spend hours sitting in front of a computer. It made me feel very lazy and lethargic, and I really hated it.”
He explained that he had suffered from extreme back pain for years, but since embarking on this life-changing journey six months ago, the problem has completely disappeared. “This was a really surprising change that I didn't expect, but I really enjoyed it. I feel like I have more mobility in my joints, but that's because at work I shoot movies for long hours and have to be stable. Sometimes it’s noticeable,” said the director, photographer and cinematographer.
Mentally, his health has improved because he no longer feels stressed. “Surprisingly, I feel more disciplined and motivated than before. I breathe easier, feel healthier and stronger overall, and don't suffer from lethargy or laziness as much as I used to.” he revealed. Even his sleep patterns have improved.
So how did he reach this breakthrough point? By joining a gym. Despite avoiding his fitness center, Reid was desperate to change his lifestyle to have more energy and be more alert.
“It was very scary at first, but it was self-imposed. I did and still consider myself a beginner. Everyone knew what they were doing and I can feel very self-conscious when I walk into a space that I know nothing about. However, I started going to the gym with a good friend of mine, and being around fellow beginners helps me overcome this. After a while you realize that no one is paying that much attention to you and what you are doing. Since then, I have been able to go out to the venue and train with more confidence. “It became,” he said.
Although he wasn't very strict in the nutrition department, he admitted that going to the gym influenced him to make more careful decisions when it comes to his diet. “I try to cut back on sweets like desserts and cakes and increase my water intake as much as possible,” he added.
He didn't tell anyone much about his fitness mission because he considers himself a beginner. But that didn't stop others from noticing and commenting on his height difference. “Since December, I've started getting comments like, “You look good,'' or “You don't look right.'' It was a good signal,” he revealed.
You already have a plan in place to become stronger and take better care of your body, and you want to focus on consistency, minimize physical beauty, and make overall health your main motivation.
“Visual improvement is subjective and not necessarily linear, so it can be easy to get discouraged if you don't see progress or think you should be making progress. I work using my body, so I want to continue using it as long as I live. I want to take good care of myself and improve my discipline. As long as I continue to attend, I will continue to use my body as a whole. Everything else is a bonus. I find it most rewarding to have this posture. But my fun goal is to do something good for my upper body at Carnival this year. It’s about being naked,” he said with a laugh.
For anyone looking to start their own wellness journey, Reed recommends getting started right away. “Start with easy workouts. Choose a gym or training area that's easy to use, do it with a friend, and don't take yourself too seriously. Choose a location that's as close as possible to make it easy to get to the gym.” Going with my friends made me really look forward to it. By not taking it too seriously, I was able to take this journey easy-going and hope that by this time I would have lost a certain amount of weight or It took away the pressure of having to see a ton of results.”
