The 31st Annual Worth Avenue Pet Parade and Costume Contest was held Saturday at Via Amore, and animal charm was the concept of the day.
On a warm, sunny late-winter day, dogs, cats and other pets were on display in flashy finery, as were their owners, vying for top spots in several categories.
This contest is sponsored by the Worth Avenue Association. This year's unusual pets included Mona Lisa, a pig owned by Nick Adams of Palm Beach; Sheik is a rabbit owned by Kim Dreyer of Palm Beach. Two bearded dragons from West Palm Beach and two Norwegian cats from Miami Beach.
Although it was an event that everyone could enjoy, it was still a contest. If there is no winner, the contest cannot be held. The winners are:
Four dogs won in the large pet category (over 36 pounds). The top prize went to Beau, a 3-year-old stallion owned by Kim Charlton of Palm Beach. Freddie, a 9-month-old Weimaraner owned by Tammy Bogue of Jupiter, won the most creative award. Most unique honors went to Lisa Marie and Presley, two Weimaraners owned by Mickey McCracken and Dan Lackey of Nokomis, and 13-year-old Weimaraners owned by Vic Exnisios of Palm Beach Gardens. Humphrey the basset hound was named most obedient.
Medium Size (15-36 pounds): Best in Show went to Bogie, an 8-year-old Portuguese water dog owned by Holly Weber of Tequesta. Ghost, a 5-year-old huskimo owned by Elizabeth Ailes of Palm Beacher, was named “Most Creative,” while the award for most unique went to Gracie, an 8-year-old American Eskimo owned by Joanna Lombardi of Southbury, Conn. Awarded. An 8-year-old Ragdoll cat named Marshmallow and a 6-year-old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix named Sandy, both owned by Anna Yap of Port St. Lucie.
Finally, in the small category (weighing less than 15 pounds), Talula, a 6-year-old Yorkshire terrier owned by Scott and Sherry Smith of Clermont, took home the top prize. The most creative award went to Princess Leia, a 13-year-old Shih Tzu owned by Rosemary Bellinger of Palm Beach. Babe Paley and Billie Paley, 3- and 1-year-old toy poodles from Palm Beach, won the most unique award, and the most obedient award went to Rowan, a 4-year-old Yorkie owned by Nick Breeding of West Palm Beach. did.
