Few destinations have captivated the collective imagination of travelers around the world as much as Egypt.
There's something incredibly fascinating about exploring Egypt's ancient temples and tombs and sailing down the Nile River.
Egypt welcomed a record number of visitors in 2023, and this fascinating destination is set to become even more popular in 2024.
If you've been dreaming of checking Egypt off your travel bucket list, here's why now is actually the best time to plan your trip.
Recommended tourist spots during shoulder season
Egypt's peak tourism season is from October to April. This is because the summer climate in Egypt is very hot. Intolerable.
The most popular months of the year are December and January. You'll have great weather, but you'll have to contend with huge crowds.
I just visited Egypt in early February and it was the perfect combination of low crowds and mild weather. Now is the perfect time to plan your March or April trip. Or wait until October or November. This is another big part of shoulder season.
New Egyptian Museum opens
The Egyptian Museum is one of Cairo's most famous tourist attractions and is visited by nearly 1 million people each year.
This is the first stop for many travelers who want to learn more about Egypt's ancient history before exploring other parts of the country.
However, the Egyptian Museum opened in its current location in 1898, and the building is definitely showing its age.
A brand new museum, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), is scheduled to officially open in Cairo this spring. It will be the world's largest archaeological museum, housing an unparalleled collection of ancient Egyptian art and artifacts.
If you're visiting Egypt this year, be sure to check out GEM for an amazing experience. This is one of the most exciting new things coming to Egypt this year.
Safe despite the headlines
Many American travelers have postponed trips to Egypt in recent months due to events in Israel and Palestine.
However, despite the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Egypt remains a perfectly safe destination to visit.
Although it appears close to Israel and Palestine on the map, there is actually a considerable distance between Egypt and the disputed areas.
Tourists in Egypt have nothing to worry about regarding this situation.
That being said, Egypt can be a somewhat difficult destination to travel to. Even as someone who has traveled solo to over 50 countries, I do not recommend it for solo female travelers as it is cumbersome and the infrastructure is not very good for solo travel.
If there's one destination that's perfect for group tours, it's Egypt. If you're concerned about safety, joining a group tour will put those concerns to rest.
Amazingly affordable price
Egypt is on many travelers' bucket lists, but unlike other dream destinations like Italy, Greece or Japan, it's surprisingly affordable.
You can spend as much or as little as you like on your trip to Egypt.
You can find luxury-worthy five-star hotels for less than $300 a night, while basic hotels can be found for as little as $30 a night. There are package tours available at all price points, from budget backpackers to luxury travelers.
If you're worried about blowing your budget, know that you can see Egypt's most famous sights for far less money than vacationing in Europe or North America.
