phoenix – The restaurant, located along Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix, has already changed its name after just a month of opening.
“Our whole concept is to bring comfort food at an affordable price to downtown Phoenix,” said Angel Gould, the restaurant's owner.
The dumpling restaurant, once called “Love Sac,” is now called “Love Bites” after a furniture company threatened to sue over the name.
“We got it through the Board of Trade. We did everything right,” Gould said. “And on the last day they could object, they did.”
Mr. Gould identified a furniture company that he threatened to sue because of its similar business name to Lovesac.
“This was the first time I heard from them, and it was just a generic letter saying, 'Don't use this name,'” Gould recalled. “And from there, it got a little bit more aggressive.”
It was a battle Gould was willing to fight until the cost was high. Gould set up a suggestion box at his restaurant and received more than 2,000 responses. Winner's name was provided by an anonymous customer.
“I crossed out 'bag' and just wrote 'bite' above it,” Gould said. “So this is certainly a lesson, but an unfortunate lesson. You know, even though we did everything right, we're still going to have to take the fall. And they get everything they want from it. you will get.”
The furniture store has not yet responded to a request for comment.
