Who will make the positionless All-NBA team?
steve ashburner
Just because All-NBA honors can now be awarded regardless of position, doesn't mean it should be. To me (and several other voters I know), the history of the league is more important than the current enthusiasm for simply listing 1-15 as the NBA's “best.”
It meant something when Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell went back and forth between first and second team picks. Same goes for Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, and David Robinson. That's how they line up in 1990and so on. The second best forward could end up being “2nd'' or “.The third-team” LaBelle, three guards finishing in the top five? No.

When compiling this list, I had a hard time with two things. sans and two Lakers (teams) At SoFi play-in tournament) and one Celtic (The team aimed for over 60 wins).
This led to deeper conversations internally about roster composition. It's better to have two All-NBA players and one All-NBA player, with the rest of the team balanced enough that the second All-NBA candidate has the resume of another star player. Is it better not to have it?
That won't be answered until June. But for now, I apologize to Jaylen Brown.

The first year of the 65-game eligibility rule cost Joel Embiid and Donovan Mitchell. Both would have been my choices for the first team (Embiid) and second team (Mitchell) spots. You're probably wondering, but I would have shuffled around and ended up using Brown and Haliburton.
Anyway: The first team was easy, Brunson's rise earned him a spot on the second team, and Haliburton's lead in the league in assists and helping Indy reach the in-season tournament finals was a factor in the third team. Bad for Domantas Sabonis, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey, and De’Aaron Fox.

The last spot on the first team was a tough decision between Tatum and Durant, but the second team was a no-brainer (once the decision was made). The third team was the toughest, but being the anchor of the league's No. 1 defense (by a wide margin) is so important that Gobert was a pretty easy pick.
This analysis was a bit rushed, and several other players (Devin Booker, Paul George, Damian Lillard, Tyrese Maxey) were left behind when it finally came time to make a real choice ( He will be seriously considered (for the following third-team players): Next week.

Honestly, the league's new 65-game rule made narrowing down the field a little easier for this exercise. Moreover, this time there is no position. But traditionalists here base their picks on the old format for the most part, with the exception of a third team that features three guards: Devin Booker, Stephen Curry, and NBA assist leader Tyrese Haliburton. is.
There is one disappointing thing about this list. That said, Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard isn't on this list, and he probably deserves to be.
