BLACKSBURG, VA – The West Virginia University tennis team defeated Virginia Tech 4-3 on Sunday at the Burroughs-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
West Virginia (4-0) advanced to dual play as junior Tatyana Lipatova defeated Virginia Tech's Erica Chan 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 in the final singles match of the day. won.
This was West Virginia University's fifth win over Virginia Tech, and the first since 1992.
In doubles, junior Michaela Kucharova and fourth-year Momoko Nagato lost 6-3 to Virginia Tech's Katie Andreini and Darya Radulova.
Camila Bossi and Tingpei Zhang lost 6-2 to Virginia Tech's Semra Ax and Zhang, giving the Hokies a 1-0 lead as they secured the doubles point.
In singles, junior Camila Bossi defeated Virginia Tech's Ozlem Uslu 6-2, 6-0 for her first singles win of the 2024 season. Graduate student Lovestar Alexis won a hard-fought battle against No. 101 Andreini 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Redshirt sophomore Maja Dodik lost to Virginia Tech's Darya Radulova 2-6, 4-6, resulting in a 2-2 tie.
Freshman Maya Bordeaux remained dominant in her first season, defeating Ax 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Nagato lost her singles match to Virginia Tech's Tamara Barad Itzaki 6-3, 4-6, 4-6.
