NFIB State Director Chad Heinrich speaks with Arizona Horizon's Ted Simmons to highlight economic headwinds and opportunities in Congress
phoenix (February 21, 2024) – In a conversation with arizona horizonTed Simmons, NFIB State Director Chad Heinrich We discussed the results of the latest NFIB Small Business Optimism Index and the opportunity to bring Arizona business continuity to the Legislature.
“There are always headwinds for small businesses,” Heinrich said. “We have a problem with labor. We have a problem with spending in general and costs are going up. We tend to see inflation and quality of labor as the biggest problems from small businesses. [are impacting them] In our regular surveys. ”
Heinrich went on to point out opposition from job creators to proposals that would increase the cost of doing business in Arizona.
“The risk that we recognize is how Congress will impact our cost of doing business. We are paying attention to things like obligations for unemployment insurance. These are cost factors for small businesses. We want to minimize legislation that impacts these programs from a cost perspective. .”

Small business owners are opposing a proposal similar to House Bill 2035 that would increase health care costs in Arizona. Last year, more than 90 percent of small business owners reported having “difficulty” paying for health insurance for their employees.
