Since 2022, officers have responded to 146 calls, including aggravated assault and homicide, police said.
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Warner Robins police say the Cru nightclub has become a public safety issue and they are currently considering revoking its license.
Just two weeks ago, three women were injured in a Cru parking lot. According to police, the incident began when two women got into an argument over a man. The suspect, Catlyn Green, 24, said she knew the three people she shot.
Green is being held in the Houston County Jail on three counts of aggravated assault.
Police Chief Wayne Fisher said the problem goes deeper than this incident.
“There were multiple incidents, including aggravated assaults, shootings, stabbings. There was also a homicide,” Fisher said.
The murder took place in June 2022 and claimed the life of a 24-year-old.
“From January 2022 to date, there have been 146 incidents at this facility requiring a police response,” he said.
Department investigators compared it to four other similar businesses in the city. He said similar facilities had less than half the number of complaints and no murders.
Fisher said he also doesn't have licensed security. Last month, they arrested a man who was working under an expired security license.
“There were five incidents where we were able to prove he was working beyond the scope of his licence,” he said.
Fisher said the Warner Robins Police Department has taken steps to ensure the safety of business owners, including installing signage. He said in the past, police officers were sometimes hired by business owners to patrol the premises.
“Those who chose to work for him also exercised their right not to work part-time in response to the problems they observed and were causing,” Fisher said.
Fisher said he has put together a proposal to share with city leaders to revoke the business license. They are also seeking to file a civil lawsuit in Superior Court to have the project deemed a public nuisance.
He added that while police will respond to calls for help, it is not their job to keep businesses safe.
“Business owners have a responsibility to provide a safe environment, not only to their patrons, but also to those who live and work in and around the areas in which they operate. “The police strive to prevent this type of behavior from happening. We will do everything we can, but we are not an agency that has contracted with that company. We are committed to the city as a whole. I’m working,” he said.
