(BIVN) – Waimea miniature horse Derby has been named 2024 Pet of the Year.
Darby, known for visiting Queens North Hawaii Community Hospital and supporting pet therapy for patients, was announced as a candidate for the six-week fundraiser earlier this month.
The results of the contest were announced on March 19 on Pet Partners' Facebook video.
(jokingly) From a news release from Queens North Hawaii Community Hospital:
Pet Partners has announced that the national 2024 Pet of the Year award winner is Derby, a miniature pet therapy horse from Queens North Hawaii Community Hospital.
Darby was nominated for Pet of the Year over more than 100 other pets from across the United States and Canada. Darby won the hearts of people all over the country, and thanks to the support of people from all over Hawaii and the mainland, Pet Her Partners was able to raise approximately $17,000. Derby is the first animal appointed by the state of Hawaii and the only Pet Partners Miniature Horse to visit patients in the state.
Darby said: “The last six weeks of the campaign have been busy, but now the real work begins. I want to continue to spread the word about pet therapy and, if possible, join the team and help inspire others. I would love to recruit more furry four-legged friends like me!” ”
This fundraiser raises critical funds to support Pet Partners' therapy animal programs, which bring unconditional love, happiness, and healing to millions of patients, seniors, veterans, and children around the world. I did.
