After ending their winning streak at 10 with a game at Notre Dame, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will travel to Charlottesville on Sunday night to close out the regular season against Virginia. The Hokies lost by 13 points to the Irish, but on a night of total loss, Virginia Tech clinched the ACC regular season title outright after Syracuse lost in overtime to North Carolina State on Thursday night. There wasn't.
Despite earning the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament along with the regular season title, Virginia Tech still has a lot of room to play in their second matchup with the Cavaliers this season. The Hokies still have a seed in the NCAA Tournament, and if they beat Virginia and win the ACC Tournament for the second year in a row, Brooks and his team would still have the No. 1 seed.
The game begins at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ACC Network and streamed on FuboTV.
The Hokies won the first game in Blacksburg on Feb. 1, but winning Sunday won't be easy after the Cavaliers suffered a seizure in the first half. Last Sunday, Virginia defeated Louisville on the road, a statement win for a program looking to turn things around.
Virginia Tech will look to bounce back, led by Elizabeth Kitley, who struggled with just 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting against Notre Dame. This is also an opportunity for the Hokies to acquire Kayla King before the ACC Tournament. She could be a big X-factor with her ability to make 3-point shots.
The Hokies still have a lot to play for and will look to get a win on the road in next week's ACC tournament against a Cavaliers team that is not close to Virginia Tech but is climbing in the standings. I hope so. right now.
