And at the most recent IMPACT retreat hosted by the North American Fraternity Council at Smith Mountain Lake, the Virginia Tech Fraternity Council received the 2023 Outstanding Fraternity Council Award. This award is given to a council that is dedicated to positively impacting not only its member chapters but also the greater fraternity, sorority, and campus community. The vice president of the North American Fraternity Council presented the award on-site.
Both Sr. Zach Feldman, the fraternity council's vice president for safety and health at the time of the award, and Sr. Kyle Harris, the organization's president at the time, acknowledged that this was a collective effort from the entire fraternity council community. He emphasized that there is. They cited the fraternal community's collaborative efforts in health and safety initiatives and a growing relationship with the Blacksburg Police Department as reasons for their success.
Winning this award “demonstrates our ability to come together as a community to achieve goals beyond what was thought possible and allows us to continue moving toward a better, safer community.” '' Harris said. “This is a group award because it took the efforts of all members, chapters and advisors to achieve this level of success.”
“This win shows that the Board of Trustees is growing and succeeding here at Virginia Tech. It shows that our community is a place for personal and professional growth as young people.” said Feldman. “We push the boundaries of student advocacy and ensure that fraternity men have a successful college experience.”
Four governing councils make up the Virginia Tech fraternity and sorority community and coordinate the chapters they represent. Each Governing Council is unique in its operations and operates its chapters according to its own philosophy, objectives, and values.
