Virginia Tech's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will celebrate National Agriculture Week from March 17-23.
National Agriculture Week commemorates the important role agriculture plays in feeding the world and supporting national economies. For example, did you know that:
- Agriculture is Virginia's largest private industry.
- 97% of Virginia's farms are family-owned.
- Agriculture in Virginia has an annual economic impact of $82.3 billion.
- Agriculture in Virginia supports more than 1.6 million jobs.
- On average, 16 cents of every dollar spent by consumers goes to farmers.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will highlight the contributions of America's farms, farmers, and agricultural workers through several events held on campus during National Agriculture Week.
Tuesday, March 19th – Livestock Petting Zoo
Celebrate National Agriculture Day at the petting zoo on the lawn of the Graduate Life Center from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Students from Precious Valley Farm and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences come together to discuss and promote animal husbandry and husbandry.
Thursday 21st March – Farm Week Meals
Stop by West End Market on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and enjoy local cuisine showcasing the best of Virginia's produce.
Throughout the week, look for signs around campus that tell you interesting facts about agriculture and how it relates to our daily lives.
