A day of celebration quickly turned into a horror show after the CEO of an Indian technology company fell 15 feet to his death in front of horrified employees in an on-stage accident.
Vistex CEO Sanjay Shah and Vistex president Vishwanath Raju Datla were inside a steel cage that was being lowered onto the stage as part of their grand entrance to a company party when the wire snapped.
Shocking video shows the moment a yellow cage floating near the rafters begins to wobble as fireworks explode and people in the crowd plead to “put hands together” for the couple. Ta.
The cage then quickly fell to one side, sending the Illinois-based company's two managers flying 15 feet, or one story, to the ground at breakneck speed.
One of the men completely flipped over and landed on his head on the ground, according to the video.
Mr. Shah died in the accident. Mr. Datra was in critical condition.
The cause was blamed on a broken wire, but authorities are investigating the accident and a defect in the cage, which was pulled by a rolling machine and fitted with wire and grills.
Shah and Datla were in India to celebrate Vistex Asia's silver jubilee, which was being celebrated over two days at the famous Ramoji Film City.
“The lowering of Shah and Raju from the cage onto the podium was an event planned to start the celebrations,” a company source told the publication.
Founded by Shah in 1999, Vistex is an advisory services firm with more than 20 offices worldwide and an extensive client list that includes GM, Yamaha, Coca-Cola, and more.
A native of Mumbai, India, he moved to the United States more than a decade ago to attend Lehigh University's business school and earned his MBA in 1989 at age 21, the organization said.
He donated another $5 million to establish the school's Vistex Institute for Management Education in 2017.
Shah is also a philanthropist and founded the Vistex Foundation, which provides grants to nonprofit organizations focused on health, education, and basic needs programming.
In 2020, Vistex Hospital was opened in Bihar, India, and the hospital has been recognized as a national model coronavirus infection facility.
The newspaper contacted Vistex.
