American folk — Police are searching for a burglar who broke into a store Tuesday afternoon, including firing more than 20 shots into the door lock.
Police were called to John's Towing, located at 74 S. 500 East, and found the front gate damaged and partially open.
According to the American Fork Police Department, investigators believe Kevin Ballew broke into the store, shot out the keys and stole the vehicle, which was seized. He is described as a white male, 36, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
“Mr. Ballew is armed and dangerous,” AFPD said in a statement.
Investigators found the back window of the store had been smashed and a silver Honda Civic missing from the tow lot. Police said about 21 shots were fired from a 9mm handgun into the lock. Police said there were no signs of gunshot injuries.
Police said Ballew was driving the car when it was seized. Police said the man had come to the tow yard the day before to retrieve his property.
The 2010 silver Honda has Florida license plates (HEZN57) and may have “cosmetic damage” to the front end of the vehicle.
Law enforcement agencies in the state and surrounding states were notified to keep an eye on the vehicle.
