Fire in Chile leaves one seriously injured
CHILE, N.Y. — One person is fighting for his life after a house fire in Chile.
Firefighters said the man went back inside to try to rescue the family's pet.
Gates Fire Department responded to the fire along Westside Drive near Coldwater Road around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. They arrived on scene within four minutes of the initial 911 call and found the center unit of a three-family home on fire.
Five adults were able to escape safely, but one person re-entered the house to try to get a pet and is currently in a life-threatening condition in hospital. Three dogs escaped safely and are now being monitored by neighbors.
It took firefighters about 60 minutes to extinguish the fire.
“We're going to look for alternative ways for them to spend the night,” said Gates Fire District Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Goole. “At this time, we do not know the residence of the other two.”
The fire brigade is still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
