A popular independent record store in Germantown is closing after 28 years in business, Louisville Business First reports. Craig Rich, owner of Underground Sounds, announced he is closing his store at 1006 Barrett Avenue, near Barrett Bar and Artist and Craftsman Supply. Rich said he is closing Underground Sound because the property owner, Almost Diamond LLC, will not renew the lease. Rich launched Underground Sound at 2003 Highland Avenue in 1995 at a time when consumer music listening habits were different. He said the proliferation of music downloads and streaming services such as Spotify has eroded its customer base for decades. At this time, Barrett said he doesn't know if he will move his business or close it permanently after he vacates the Avenue building.
