The Tar Heels will play Virginia Tech this afternoon at the Dean Dome. Carolina is recovering from a disappointing loss on the road to Syracuse and hopes to bounce back at home against the Hokies, who are barely above .500. It certainly helps that they were able to beat Florida State on Tuesday night, so I'm not sure if their momentum continues in this game, or if the Tar Heels desperately try not to lose two games in a row. We'll see if we win or not.
The key to this game is very simple. It's about playing better defense. I know it's not very sexy from an analytical standpoint, but the truth is, that was the main factor in the game against Syracuse, and it was the difference between a win and a loss this afternoon. Hubert Davis also said in yesterday's press conference that the Heels made more 3-pointers than they attempted free throws in their loss to the Orange, which is another big thing they have to overcome. said it was a problem. When they were able to get into action regularly early in the season, they were unstoppable. But they've settled into a lot of ill-advised jumpers lately, and while some of them are playing, the problem is that missed jumpers turn into turnovers, especially when you're not already playing well on defense. It is possible that it will happen.
