TYLER, Texas — Pet owners, listen up! Tyler Animal Shelter wants the public to take advantage of the free microchipping and registration of 1,000 pets.
Animal Services Director Sean Markman said this is something the shelter has wanted to do for a while. He said microchipping pets can help both owners and shelters if they become strays.
“The idea is to rehome more pets, which would also reduce the problem of room and space in shelters. If we can return animals to the field that don't even show up in shelters, the more the more The more the better,” Markman said. .
If your pet is already microchipped, the shelter can make sure that information is up to date.
“Microchipping is the only way to permanently identify an animal. Even if the collar comes off, the dog won't tell you where it lives. “It provides information like where to call, address, and maybe where the pet is from. Maybe it's from another organization,” Markman said.
This free service is available to everyone, regardless of where they live.
“We microchip pets anywhere. They don't have to live in East Texas. Smith County, Gregg County, Henderson County, Anderson County, (it) doesn't matter,” Markman said.
The microchip installation process takes only a few minutes.
“Before you even finish the paperwork, it's already done. It's that simple,” Markman said.
Those interested in getting a microchip and registering their pet for free can visit the Tyler Animal Shelter, 4218 Chandler Highway, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
