SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It's always fun to see pet owners get creative and have fun naming their pets.
Two San Diego County pets, Chula Vista dog Lulu the Conqueror and San Diego cat Nyannes, are among the 30 finalists on Nationwide's list of most unusually named insured pets.
Lulu the Conqueror is a Chiweenie named for her fearless personality.
“The name 'Conqueror' is the middle name we gave her, because even though she's less than 15 pounds (tall) and less than 15 pounds (tall), Get it done with Mix like a 60-pound staff, just pounce, grapple, and roll, tackle her and steal treats from her! Owner Miguel H told Nationwide.
Nyanese's owners named her a play on their cat's name.
“Our family has a history of naming our pets after food, so we wanted to take it to the next level and include some puns,” owner Mike says of his Yemeni shorthair mix. Ta. “I knew I wanted to use a condiment as a base, so I was trying out names like Cat's Up and Meowstad, but Munnaise was a dead end.”
Finalists will be divided into three categories: dogs, cats, and exotic pets. Exotic pets include macaws, guinea pigs, snakes, turtles, mini pigs, tegu lizards, ferrets, rabbits, and more.
Voting for the contest ends on Friday. Winners in each category will be announced on Wednesday.
