MELBOURNE — Is barbecue the best dish for revenge?
At a Korean barbecue restaurant in Melbourne, Australia, a banner purportedly written by the restaurant owner to his ex-girlfriend attracted attention online.
“Hey Sophia, you left me because I was poor,” says a sign in front of the yet-to-be-opened Ching Korean BBQ restaurant in Caroline Springs.
“I now have money to throw a Korean barbecue. Do I regret it now?”
The photo, posted to Reddit last Tuesday (March 19), gained traction on the r/Melbourne subreddit, with more than 200 comments as of Tuesday afternoon.
Netizens took sides with Sofia and the restaurant owner, while others criticized it as a clever marketing ploy to build anticipation for the restaurant's opening. It's unclear when restaurants will open.
“Revenge is the best food eaten on a barbecue,” Reddit user “fulham_fc” witty joked.
Another added: “She was skewered.”
“Roasted,” said a third.
Meanwhile, netizens from “#TeamSophia” doubt whether it is possible to make money in the food and beverage business.
“This person doesn't know there's no money in the food industry,” one Redditor wrote.
Another wrote: “Plot twist: Guy’s business fails within the first 6 months… Sophia puts up a sign on the footbridge.
“The sign said, 'We knew you were a loser.'”
Others believe Sofia won't lose sleep over her ex's success, saying: “I don't think Sofia can see it from her new boyfriend's yacht.”
For those on Sophia's side, the sign only confirmed that she had dodged a bullet.
Redditor “FranticFetus” said, “I think this is just depressing for this guy.”
“The fact that he has to do this other than move on for someone better just proves that he will never be happy in life.”
User 'FormerlyKnownAsBeBa' agreed, writing, 'She made the right decision…the fact that he can't enjoy her success without her pathetic attempts to rub it in her ex's face is just… It's sad.''
Another joked: “The food…must be extra salty!”
