We reported last year that Threads was working on a trending feature that would allow users to find posts about the most discussed topics on the platform right now. Although the feature has not yet been released to everyone, Threads is currently making the trending feature available to users in the United States.
Threads now show trending topics, but only in the US
As Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri shared, the feature helps users find “timely topics that people are talking about.” According to the executive, the trending topics for threads are:[検索]tab and[For You]You can find it in your feed. Mosseri explains that topics are determined by his AI based on what people engage with on the platform.
“Our content specialists review the topics selected by our AI system to check for duplication or confusion, but generally we want them to accurately represent what is actually being talked about in the thread. Political trends will also be covered,” Mosseri said in his personal profile.
The interface is very similar to the one leaked last year. A ranking of the most commented topics on the thread is displayed, along with the number of posts for each topic. However, the leaked interface shows the number of posts in each thread, and Meta appears to have removed this information.
At this time, the Trends feature is available to a small number of users in the United States. Instagram's CEO said the platform wants to “learn from this test and iterate over time” before expanding the feature to more regions and languages.
Earlier this year, Threads released an update that added an option for users to sort search results chronologically. However, the platform later pulled the update, saying the feature was an “internal prototype” that was “inadvertently made available to a small number of people.” It's unclear when (or if) this option will return.
The Threads app is free to download from the App Store.
