Karine Davtyan, president, project manager, and attorney at Women's Rights House, and Anahit Badalyan, founder and director of Berd Women's Resource Center Foundation, joined the conversation.
Badarian said she developed her organization because women face economic, medical and mental health issues.
“So by then I was the editor of a women's newspaper called We Are,” Badarian said. “I had an idea to create a non-profit, non-governmental organization that would address women's issues. That's why this organization existed.”
Davutian's work also focuses on women's empowerment. Women's Rights House touches on topics such as gender-based violence, domestic violence and sexual violence, as well as women's leadership and political participation.
“That's why I wanted to be here,” Davutian said. “To learn more about the American experience, about American leaders, especially women leaders, and to bring back some new ideas that might be beneficial to my community.”
Badalyan said meeting with the mayors was an exciting experience.
“Given their experience and approach to work, it's really amazing to see how they work and how they're supported because, as I always like to say, “Women are stronger together,” she said.
