LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech University will host its Celebrate Excellence Awards Banquet on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Lubbock Civic Center Banquet Hall. The event's featured speaker will be Emmy Award-winning journalist John Quiñones.
The event will help generate scholarships for deserving students and will recognize the Texas Tech community as well as the Lubbock community, according to a press release.
“Celebrating excellence within our community is extremely important to our university,” said Corey Powell, senior director of campus access and engagement.
Here is a list of Texas Tech University and Lubbock community members who will be recognized:
– CASA of the South Plains, Inc. receives Inclusive Excellence Award.
-George Love Jr., director of the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center, will be recognized as a recipient of the Dr. Lauro F. Cavazos Excellence in Teaching Award.
– Former City Council member and community activist Maggie Trejo will receive the Senator Robert L. Duncan Community Champion Award.
-Kimberly Simon, Texas Tech University Title IX coordinator, and Suzanne Tapp, assistant vice chancellor for faculty success and managing director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development, are recipients of the Inclusive Excellence Award. will be awarded as.
