After a dramatic ninth inning, Texas Christian University (22-12) defeated the Red Raiders in a conference series against Texas Tech (26-11) on Sunday at Lupton Ballpark at Williams Riley Field in Fort Worth. We won the game by defeating them 4-3.
Facing TCU junior pitcher Zachary Coyer, Tech entered the final frame with a one-run lead led by junior Gavin Kash. Kash hit a double into the left field seats, followed by a walk by sophomore Gage Harrelson.
Both runners will remain on base after Coyer takes the mound for redshirt sophomore Caedmon Parker and strikes out the Red Raiders' final three batters.
The Horned Frogs' offense got off to a quick start, scoring three of their four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by senior Luke Boyers. According to TCU Athletics, this home run was his third of the season.
All three of Tech's runs came in the second, third and fourth innings against TCU starting pitcher freshman Mason Bixby. According to Tech Athletics, Bixby was replaced in the fourth inning by senior Ben Hampton, who held the Red Raiders scoreless in two innings and contributed to the victory.
With the win, the Horned Frogs sit in 11th place in the Big 12 with a conference record of 7-11, while the Red Raiders sit in sixth place with a 9-9 record, according to the Big 12.
This is the fourth straight series loss for the Red Raiders in Fort Worth, with their last series victory coming in 2016, according to Tech Athletics.
Next, the Red Raiders will play two more games on the road against No. 1 Arkansas at Fayetteville's Baum-Walker Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
