Small businesses are America's economic engine. There are 33.2 million small businesses in this country, representing 99.9 percent of all businesses in the United States. However, these companies often struggle with the aftermath of a disaster or preparing for the next one.
The Readiness for Resiliency Program (R4R), developed in partnership with FedEx, is a multi-year initiative to support small businesses affected by disasters. The program guides interested small businesses in disaster preparedness, and he provides $5,000 in immediate relief funds to ready businesses after a federal disaster declaration is issued in their area.
To date, the R4R program, with additional support from Allstate, has helped nearly 3,000 businesses prepare for the next disaster and distributed $5,000 grants to 51 businesses across the country. Grant recipients report using the funds for critical expenses such as building a customer base, paying employee salaries, and repairing damaged or lost inventory.
