Taking a daily multivitamin can protect against cognitive decline for up to two years, according to a new study from Massachusetts General Hospital.
According to the World Health Organization, cognitive decline is one of the first major symptoms associated with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, which together affect 55 million people worldwide.
“Cognitive decline is one of the greatest health concerns for most older adults, and daily multivitamin supplements are an attractive and accessible approach to slowing cognitive aging. It has great potential,” said Chirag Vyas, lead author of the study.
The new study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that a daily multivitamin with 20 essential nutrients “helps prevent memory decline and slow cognitive aging,” lead author Olivia said.・Dr. Okereke says:
The study included evaluations of 573 people over a two-year period. The group taking the multivitamin was found to have significantly improved ability to learn, store, and retrieve information compared to the placebo group.
Researchers also found improvements in the following areas: Orientation, attention, verbal fluency, and related skills known as global cognition will also be extended by up to two years.
Howard Sesso, a researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital, called the discovery “exciting.”
“It is now important to understand the mechanisms by which daily multivitamins protect against memory loss and cognitive decline, with a focus on nutritional status and other aging-related factors,” Sesso said.
A dentist recently discussed how maintaining good oral hygiene is related to preventing mental deterioration, and how exercise is also related to preventing this type of neurodegenerative disease. We talked about.
