The St. Kitts Tourism Board has launched a new marketing initiative aimed at increasing visitor numbers to the island.
At Tuesday's Prime Minister's press conference, Tourism Minister Marcia Henderson said 13 New York City taxis will be wrapped with St. Kitts branding and will be deployed to locations where a significant portion of potential visitors live and work. said.
“Ultimately, the purpose of our fleet of branded vehicles is to help fill those fleets. [airline] seat. So they can't extend routes or introduce new routes, and they don't know how to fill seats. It’s not beneficial to us,” Henderson said.
The government partnered with US companies Firefly and Neustar to target potential visitors and maximize the effectiveness of the program.
Mr Henderson said the five-week marketing plan was part of a larger strategy aimed at increasing St. Kitts' visibility in its core markets.
“We moved into New York, which is a source market. So it's strategic. We have a feeder market from New York as well, where people fly in from JFK Airport for food from Canada, Ottawa, Toronto and other areas. We have a lot of visitors coming in, especially with the extension from April to August, so we're getting good value for the taxpayers' money,'' Mr Henderson said.
