ST. Johns County, Florida – Multiple groups in St. Johns County are working to address the mental health and behavioral needs of the community.
They hold focus groups, attend summits in the region, and use anonymous surveys to find out more information in the hopes that adults and children will be honest about their feelings. continuing.
Kathy Newman of INK, a group that supports students and teachers in St. Johns County, said the project is needed because it gives community members answers about what they think is best for them.
Several people in the area said they like how people are willing to help.
There is one survey for adults and one survey for children ages 10 to 17.
They ask questions like: “During the past 12 months, have you postponed, canceled, or ignored receiving services from a mental health or substance abuse professional?”
The Northeast Florida Health Planning Council, Investing in Children, and the Community Behavioral Health Consortium are some of the groups involved in this project.
INK's Kathy Newman said the assessment falls under a project called “Resilience Through Community.”
“For us, it wasn't enough to just ask adults what was going on with them and have them assume for the kids. That's why we wanted to ask the kids directly. ,” Newman said.
She said the information gained through the survey will help the group know what types of services are more needed to reach the community.
Mr Newman also said that the last time a project like this was undertaken was before the pandemic, so it is important now to get a better picture of how the situation has changed.
Newman said he is asking everyone who lives in St. Johns County to complete the survey.
The data collected is expected to be published in August.
