SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – One Springfield-area mental health provider is using lyrics from Taylor Swift songs in her monthly DBT therapy sessions.
DBT Ozark uses DBT therapy, a skills-based therapy that taps into the interests people already have to empathize and uncover problems. Over the next few months, DBT Ozarks will host sessions based on Taylor's music, choosing her Swift music as a common interest for many people.
“Clients I already work with often bring in lyrics from Taylor's songs, which really help them explain how they're feeling when they can't put it into words. You might want to know how you can empathize with another group of people who love . And since there were enough people doing that, we decided to run a workshop ” said Kristen Schuler, owner of DBT Ozarks.
During the session, patients not only analyze the themes throughout the album, but also the lyrics throughout the songs that people can relate to in different ways.
We're also going to be making Taylor Swift bracelets, so there's an arts and crafts aspect to it as well.
Schuler said several people attended these special sessions and then began attending regularly scheduled DBT therapy sessions. Click here for session details.
