The Spring Hill Fire Department responded quickly and effectively to a morning fire in a third-floor apartment at Worthington Glen Apartments, rescuing a dog and two cats. Thanks to quick response and the assistance of a sprinkler system, the fire was extinguished and there were no casualties.
The fire broke out at 11:21 a.m. Monday and fortunately occurred while no one was in the apartment. However, the presence of a beloved pet left behind prompted firefighters to take immediate action to ensure the pet's safety. Firefighters were able to find the pets and safely evacuate them, much to the relief of their owners.
The sprinkler system played an important role in containing the fire and minimizing its spread to neighboring units. The third-floor apartment suffered fire damage, while the apartment below suffered water damage when the sprinkler system activated. Damage to the building is estimated at approximately $150,000. The fire marshal determined that one of the cats may have turned on the stove and started the fire.
Worthington Glen is taking proactive steps to assist affected residents. Management is relocating residents to other vacant apartments in the complex to ensure their comfort and safety during the restoration work.
