The Week in Review is a collection of both all the good stuff I've written on the internet over the past week, as well as a ton of links that I've found interesting, related to endurance sports in general . I've often wondered what to do with all the cool writing people have written. I share a lot of it on Twitter/X and Facebook, but this forum is a better place to get it out to you. In most cases, these different streams do not overlap. So look for good things in all these places.
Now let's move on to the action.
DCR posts from the past week:
The latest information on the site is as follows:
Tuesday: Look's New Road KEO Blade & SPD Power Meter Pedals: Hands-on!
It's been a quiet week on the road for some of our products, but more products are coming soon.
Last week's YouTube videos:
Here are some videos that were hits on You of Tube: Don't forget to subscribe there to get notified the moment a video hits.
Interesting things I found on the interwebs:
Below are just a few of the considerable things I stumbled upon while fulfilling my civic duty of finding the end of the internet.
1) Behind the F1 velvet curtain: The article caused all sorts of drama and was initially removed from Road & Track. The reason is… well… probably because it influenced F1. I think this article is less about F1 technology etc. and more of an interesting comparison between cycling and F1 journalism/media coverage. The journalist (Kate Wagner), who is also a writer for Escape Collective, republished the retracted article in full.
2) Apple Fitness+ now on Gympass: This seems to have been announced in January, but it definitely slipped under my radar amidst the plethora of CES news that week. Anyway, interesting.
3) Garmin's inReach SOS Year in Review: This report graphs all emergency button presses by location, type, and more. It's worth a quick look.
4) Engineering of Redbull's 300KPH F1 Tracked Drone: You may have seen snippets of that crazy F1 drone on social media, but just in case you haven't seen the engineering side yet, Redbull's full YouTube video is worth a watch. Also, in this week's summary he had two things about F1 which he didn't expect. It's been a very long time (if ever) that there was even one about F1.
5) Peloton is testing more new games on its platform. And these are definitely very unique compared to the regular Peloton experience.
6) University studies looking for data from triathletes in age groups: Basically, they want 6 months of training data and a quick survey after that. Enter here or learn more at the Slowtwitch post link above.
7) Nix hydration sensor review: This has been floating around on my Twitter feed and it's very well done. As some of you may know, I started reviewing the Nix Hydration Sensor last year and had various issues with it. I did an extensive test with my wife and another friend. We did everything from pre-workout naked weigh-ins (not with friends), hydration and nutrition weight tracking, and post-workout naked weigh-ins. And TLDR: The Knicks were way off. It's quite far. For all of us. forever. Then, as I approached the review, Nix made significant changes to the algorithm to account for breathing loss. But I haven't tested it. But I have a hot weather trip coming up next month, so I'm planning on restarting this naked circus again. Meanwhile, that link/review seems to show exactly what I found a year ago on almost every level (from technical quirks to hydration data quirks)…but current data /Except only experience.
8) Anti-doping inspectors sweep Spanish amateur racing, 130 athletes withdraw: Now, there may be something a little more important for the UCI and relevant authorities to focus on than substandard socks.
