I applaud Snapchat for introducing AI-powered features through the app's Snapchat+ subscription. However, I think we should stop accepting suggestions from ChatGPT on how to implement it. From last year's My AI chatbot to the lackluster Extend Snap feature it recently experimented with, Snapchat can't seem to take advantage of the power of generative AI. And the same seems to be the case with the AI Bitmoji pet feature that is reportedly rolling out to some users.
According to a screenshot uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) by user Jonah Manzano, Snapchat is giving Snapchat+ subscribers an AI-powered Bitmoji pet as part of early access to exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features. They are planning to introduce this feature.
As explained by Snapchat, this feature allows users to: “Create a realistic or imaginary Bitmoji pet” It will appear next to your avatar. How do I create one? Well, using AI. Once set up, your “AI pet” will appear right next to your girlfriend's Bitmoji whenever a friend searches for you on Snap Map.
In an update, X users revealed that the feature allows them to take a photo of their real pet or select an image of their pet from a gallery. Based on that, the AI can generate identical avatars for them.
I think this is what the description means when it says: “Create a real or imaginary pet using AI.” The imaginary part is still unknown, but it looks like Snapchat will offer a collection of pre-generated AI pets that you can customize to your liking, similar to Bitmoji.
This feature appears to be rolling out to a limited number of users at this time. I checked with her two different Snapchat+ users (Android and iOS) in the Beebom office to see if it was available, but I still couldn't access it. However, it should reach other Snapchat+ users soon.
You are probably asking yourself this question. “Why do you need that? Who asked for this?” To be honest, I have no idea either. Perhaps some users would like to have a real-life pet appear next to them on their girlfriend's Snapchat profile. Other than that, I don't really understand the reason.
