Drew Barrymore's lifestyle change was inspired by Simone Biles.
The 48-year-old star rose to fame as a child actor in the early 1980s, but has decided to reinvent himself in recent years after previously struggling with drug and alcohol abuse.
Drew, who shares children Olive, 11, and Frankie, 9, with ex-husband Will Kopelman, told Us Weekly: [‘The Drew Barrymore Show’]I was just a struggling mom trying to let go of the work I knew – acting, producing, directing – to stay home with my kids.
“I knew that just staring at it all day wasn't going to be good for me, so I tried a lot of things. I wrote a book. I started a beauty brand. I wanted something that would challenge me. , I wanted to be a better parent, but I still wanted to be a stay-at-home parent.
“I also wanted to change my lifestyle. I didn’t want to drink anymore.
“I managed to get by in front of the kids, but [after] “It was so loud and so bright that I couldn’t ignore it anymore,” I felt. And getting divorced didn't help either. ”
Simone Biles withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues, but the gymnast's decision was also a turning point for Drew.
The actress, who has been hosting The Drew Barrymore Show since 2020, said: “Then when Simone Biles came out and said, “I'm not going to get on the balance beam,'' I was so shocked. Sometimes in this world we don't know when to stop running, we don't think we can opt out.
“That moment was pivotal for me. It gave me permission to do nothing.” [stay in] The old life I knew. ”
