- Sam Kerr is putting his jet-flying lifestyle at risk
- Superstar tarnished her reputation and brand
- Marketing experts predict her fall will be 'dramatic'
Ms. Matilda superstar Sam Kerr, who is said to have earned more than $3 million last year to fund his expensive lifestyle, has been accused of racially harassing a police officer. With the indictment, things could change quickly.
On Tuesday morning, the Daily Mail exclusively revealed that the Matilda's captain will face a criminal trial in February next year on charges related to the incident.
The Chelsea striker appeared in court on January 30 last year in Twickenham, south-west London, on suspicion of using insulting, threatening and abusive language which caused alarm and distress to police officers.
She has pleaded not guilty and her defense team will try to have the charges dropped on April 26, but if that fails, she will face a four-day criminal trial next year.
Kerr is said to be Australia's highest-paid female soccer player, earning $3.3 million last year.
This staggering figure takes into account his $600,000 salary from his club Chelsea, with the rest coming from sponsorship deals with Nike, Mastercard and EA Sports, the Australian Financial Review reported. .
Kerr's 13-year contract with Nike is estimated to be worth about $1 million.
However, sports marketing experts predicted that Kerr could soon face a “pretty dramatic decline” following recent news.
Dr Tom Heenan told News Corp: “There will be marketing spin-offs from this. Her reputation has been damaged. Especially since the Matildas are held in such high positions, the decline has been quite dramatic. It will become a target.”
“The other aspect of this is that Kerr is out of the game.” [while recovering from knee surgery that will sideline her for several months] And the popularity of other players has also increased.
“The Women's World Cup did a lot to emphasize that this is a team, not just Sam Kerr.
“I don't think the team's reputation will be harmed, but Kerr's reputation will be harmed.”
Mr Kerr has also secured endorsement deals from the Commonwealth Bank and Lego.
Dr. Heenan added that there are many factors that could be weighed against Mr. Kerr beyond the trial.
“You have a double whammy: an allegation of racism, and it's said to be against a police officer,” Dr. Heenan said.
“Olympic Campaign” [Paris 2024] Carr's story will likely be brought up because without him, the team's reputation will be tarnished, especially if the team goes deep into the tournament.
“If Kerr doesn't play, the damage done to her reputation by this will remain.”
A leading Australian sports agent also told Daily Mail Australia that he believed Mr Kerr was in serious trouble with Football Australia for not informing him of the legal scandal.
“This is standard protocol for athletes.” [immediately] Please do not pass on information of this nature,” he told Daily Mail Australia on condition of anonymity.
“Not doing so could very well be a breach of her contract…although there are two sides to every story, of course. [racism] The crime is serious. ”
The agent in question, who manages several high-profile individuals, said if Mr Kerr were his client he would have immediately reported the alleged incident to Football Australia, after which Australia would decide its next course of action. He said he was deaf.
Kerr takes time out of his busy schedule to enjoy his success and enjoys traveling abroad with his friends and partner.
Last May, she visited New York with her fiancé, fellow soccer player Christy Mewi.
That same month, she traveled to Spain for the F1 Grand Prix, where she interacted with the McLaren team and enjoyed a level of access that most fans would note.
The 30-year-old also enjoyed a holiday in Bali in 2019, where she shared a photo of herself riding an ATV with friends.
Just a few weeks ago, Kerr spent her birthday weekend in Paris with her partner.
She and her fiancé also enjoy luxury shopping trips, sharing snaps of Louis Vuitton and wearing luxury brands such as Heron Preston and Palm Angels.
Mr Kerr bought a vacant waterfront site in Perth's seaside suburb of North Coogee last year for $940,000.
She grew up in the area and the 200 square meter block is close to where her parents, Roxanne and Roger Kerr, live.
Plans have been approved for a three-storey townhouse on this plot, located just behind the seafront overlooking the sea.
