This almost 3-year-old loves kids. Do you believe in kittens?
San Antonio — Each week in our “Forgotten Friends” series, we introduce you to a dog or cat who has spent a significant amount of time in a local shelter, just waiting for someone to notice and take them home to love them.
This week we went to the Animal Defense League in Nacogdoches and met an almost 3-year-old Rottweiler mix named Rocky who was rescued from San Antonio City Animal Care Services in August 2021.
Rocky gets along well with everyone, including children, other dogs, and even horses. ADL's Jamie Gibson said: “He's never met a stranger, he loves people and he really seems to like children.” “He's a bit of a bulldozer when you meet his good friends, because attention, good pets, and scratching are the things he loves the most.”
He has the perfect finish with puppy dog eyes and a hound dog pout. His ideal family is one that just loves him, regardless of whether they have children or other pets. Did I mention he loves kittens?
He loves car rides, getting pets and treats, and cuddling with others. Rocky knows how to walk on a leash, but he only gets a little excited when he sees someone he wants to say hello to. But when you give him a treat, he remembers not to pull people.
He has a bit of hip dysplasia but is otherwise healthy and is currently up to date on all vaccinations, spayed and microchipped.
“He's not depressed by his bad back. He's fine with short periods of activity and casual walks, but he just wants a family where he's okay with belly rubs and cuddles,” Jamie said. said.
Rocky loves having a tidy room and a big fluffy bed where he can relax surrounded by toys.
Jamie said: “The reason he's not doing his best in the kennel is because he doesn't understand why people passing by don't stop and give him some love.'' “But once he gets out of the kennel, you can see his true personality.”
Rocky is what ADL calls a diamond in the rough. In the Animal Defense League, he is open to adoptable pets who are 4 months or older. This means your adoption fee will be zero, so you can spend more on toys, bedding, and treats to pamper your pet in their new home.
If ADL would like to help rescue and treat more pets in need, ADL will ask for monetary donations in lieu of adoption fees for these pets. Every dollar you donate helps save the next life of abandoned, abused, or neglected pets in our communities that we see every day.

For those who adopt Rocky, Lucy's Doggy Daycare & Spa lends a leg up by offering a complimentary “glow up day” at the spa that includes a massage therapy bath and paudicure. One of Lucy's most cherished core values is to continue Lucy's tradition of giving back to puppies in need, as she was a rescuer herself.
