Rapid City, South Dakota – There's a lot of theater going on in the Rapid City area. Catalyst Theater, which recently finished a production of “Ride the Cyclone,'' and Black Theater, which held auditions for “Alabama Story'' and is preparing for the opening of “Fiddler on the Roof'' on March 15th. There are plenty of options to see a show, including the Hills Community Theater.
Seraphim Theatrical Entertainment, which recently celebrated its 10th season, will hold auditions for “Godspell” on March 11 and 12 at 1124 Kansas City Street. Seraphim will stage his one musical in 2023 and Godspell will be offered as his 2024 production. Their past musicals include “Little Shop of Horrors” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”

Godspell will be performed May 9-11 and May 16-18, with all showtimes at 7:30 p.m.
What is Godspell?
Godspell: 2012, the musical by Stephen Schwartz, is a modern reinterpretation of the original feel. Filled with contemporary elements and vibrant arrangements, the album features the hit song “Day by Day,” as well as popular songs such as “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord” and “All Good Gifts.” Masu. The story unfolds as a small group uses a variety of games and storytelling techniques to perform an allegory of Jesus Christ with an eclectic blend of songs from pop to vaudeville. The story culminates in the Last Supper and Crucifixion, vividly conveying Jesus' message of kindness, tolerance, and love. Boasting a chart-topping score, his Godspell continues to resonate with audiences.
What should I expect at the audition?
Those wishing to audition must arrive at the theater by 7pm on March 11th or 12th. The audition consists of a 32-bar piece prepared in advance, and actors bring sheet music for piano accompaniment.
The actors perform a “cold read” of the script and learn the choreography. A cold read is when an actor performs a scene with a script in hand that they have not prepared in advance.
“Anne of Green Gables” released on March 7th
Also opening on March 7 is Seraphim's latest production, Anne of Green Gables, adapted by Seraphim Theater co-owner Stephen Farrugia. Tickets are available for all performances on Seraphim's ticketing website.
“Anne of Green Gables” will be performed March 7-9 and March 14-16 at 7:30 p.m.
What will happen to Seraphim in 2025?
Seraphim Theater recently announced that it will be producing the musical Anastasia for the 2024-2025 season. The exact date has not yet been announced, but it is expected to be in the spring of 2025.
