MORGANTOWN, WV — JJ Cunally scored 21 points, Kaia Watson had 19 and No. 22 West Virginia University scored in the third quarter against Texas Tech, defeating the Lady Raiders 82-59 on Tuesday night. I won.
Lauren Fields scored 11 points and Kyle Blacksten added 10 points for the Mountaineers (20-2, 9-2 Big 12), who won their seventh straight game.
West Virginia led 17-11 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 40-28 at halftime by shooting 60.7% (17 of 28). However, the Mountaineers sealed the coffin for Texas Tech in the third quarter, defeating the Lady Raiders 30-10. West Virginia made 11 of 16 shot attempts in the third set, and Quinerly converted all four of his shot attempts, including a 3-pointer, for 11 points.
West Virginia shot 56.1% (32-of-57) overall.
Jasmine Shavers had 16 points and Jordyn Merritt had 13 points for the Lady Raiders (16-8, 5-6). A layup by Merritt with 85 seconds to play gave Texas Tech its only lead, and West Virginia extended its lead to 9-0 on a layup by Blacksten, back-to-back layups by Watson and a 3-pointer by Fields.
Texas Tech lost three out of five schools for the second year in a row. The Lady Raiders host Central Florida on Saturday.
West Virginia heads to Waco, Texas, to play No. 18 Baylor on Saturday, its second game against a top-ranked team this season. On January 6th, then No. 10 Texas defeated the Mountaineers 70-49.
