Former President Donald Trump sparked controversy and outrage by endorsing the “God Bless the USA Bible,” a large-print Bible that includes America's founding documents and lyrics by Lee Greenwood. It's still unclear exactly how Trump benefits from this, but the website asserts that none of the proceeds will be used for Trump's presidential campaign.
The Rev. Al Sharpton, a liberal pastor and civil rights activist who knows President Trump personally, did not speak on MSNBC.
“I listen to pastors, including yourself,” anchor Joy Reid said. “Talk about Trump. Trump is not a Christian. I mean, he's not a religious person at all. You know, he was non-religious.”

“I have never heard him discuss religion, much less be criticized for attending a religious meeting. That's why, as someone who grew up in the church and has been a preacher since he was a boy, , it's very insulting for him to do something like this.'' Not only does he sell Bibles during Holy Week, but I mean, this week is a time when we who believe in Christ, the real Christ, are the ones who are today's Jesus. It is the week that deals with the Crucifixion, Good Friday and Sunday, and the Resurrection. As a marketing tool, the money is going to Donald Trump, not for a good cause, not to help the poor, and not even to his campaign, which means it's really not for him to go to lawyers. It's a star situation, a scam bank situation, that you're doing it for the reward, to get out of the porn world. ”
“Doing something like this shows that a person is not only non-religious, but non-religious,” Sharpton continued. “To take the Bible and say this is the only Bible that has been upheld by Donald Trump is because if you believe that this is God’s holy word, then you and I are the ones who uphold God’s word. Which one?”
“And add to that!” Upon Sharpton's assent, Reid joined in as well.
