Canada's Porter Airlines has appointed airport official Rob Palmer as its new chief financial officer.
The Toronto-based airline announced that Mr. Palmer joined the company on Feb. 7 after most recently serving as CFO of the Calgary Airport Authority.
Mr. Palmer's experience also includes serving as a vice president and controller for Calgary-based WestJet.
“Rob has a clear understanding of airport operations and airline finance, and we look forward to benefiting from his knowledge in these areas,” said Michael DeLuce, CEO of Porter. says Mr. “His time at WestJet was a period of rapid expansion, similar to what Porter is doing today as the airline was evolving into a North American airline.”
Jeffrey Brown, Porter's former finance director, resigned in October to take the same position at Canadian company Chartwell Retirement Residences. Mr. Brown had been Porter's CFO since 2014.
The company carries passengers to more than 30 cities with a fleet of new Embraer 195-E2s and older de Havilland Dash 8-400s. The airline recently expanded its service to the U.S. West Coast by launching flights from Toronto to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
In December, Porter launched An interline agreement with major US carrier Alaska Airlines allows the airline to offer combined itineraries and coordinate marketing flights.
Porter describes the deal as a “broad partnership” that connects the company's unique regional network across eastern Canada with Alaska's “established U.S. West Coast link.”
