Polaris Tech Charter School in Ridgeland is seeking candidates for directorship, the school said in a news release.
Polaris Tech is located on Glades Highway, across from Ridgeland Claude Dean Airport.
“Polaristec has grown from serving 300 middle school and high school learners to a full-service K-12 school of approximately 550 students, open to youth throughout the Lowcountry. “We did it,” said Polaris' chairman and one of its chief executives. Founder, Ret. Four-star Air Force General Lloyd “Fig” Newton.
Newton added that part of the school's growth is due to dedicated board members who helped push the idea forward.
“We are looking for candidates who can help us reach, rise and soar.”
According to the school, the deadline for applications for director candidates is March 15 at 4 p.m., and online elections will be held from April 23-25.
Candidates must apply online and applications are available on the school's website www.polaristech.org or directly using the link https://forms.gle/pv5xuyd157rFE7as5.
Polaris' Board of Directors members serve two-year terms. Six seats are currently vacant, of which three of his seats will be filled by election, and the remaining three of his seats will be appointed by the current board.
“To ensure a fair and confidential election, the South Carolina Alliance for Public Charter Schools will oversee the board election process,” the school said in a statement.
“In accordance with South Carolina Charter Law, the elected board members are elected by the families of the charter school's students and school staff. Voting will be conducted online via computer or mobile device,” the school said in a statement.
The school stated, “One vote will be given to school personnel (teachers and staff) who do not have students enrolled in Polaris Tech.'' “Families and school personnel of students enrolled in Polaris Tech will be given one vote for each student enrolled in the school.”
Polaris Tech said families with multiple children enrolled at Polaris Tech and school officials will receive an electronic ballot for each student.
“To ensure the confidentiality of the process, every ballot will have a unique PIN number,” the school said. “For families without internet access or who need additional assistance, computers will be available at school to allow them to vote during regular school hours. Election information will be sent to families via email from the school.” It will be done.”
Newton said Polaristech is seeking a diverse board of directors. The school holds monthly board meetings, usually via Zoom or on the school campus. The school said that under applicable law, at least half of the board must have business or education experience and all board members must be South Carolina residents.
