It's that time of year when declarations of love are on full display, with red roses, pink hearts and chocolates everywhere. Oakdale Animal Shelter's adoptable pets are ready to make this Valentine's Day even more special in a way that only pets can.
To coincide with the holiday, the shelter will be holding an adoption event on Saturday, February 10th to showcase the beautiful animals that are ready to go to new homes. While many area shelters are alarmingly overcrowded, Oakdale has a stable adoption volume and many of the shelter's animals are suitable candidates for adoption, making Oakdale a reasonable choice for the shelter. I'm proud of the level I've been able to maintain.
“We have a few large dogs and we are pretty full, which is not unusual, but these dogs haven't always been able to get their daily exercise due to the weather,” said the animal control officer. Beth Crowley said. “But even through the gloom and confinement, these puppies have all maintained their humor and great personalities. This is unusual for a group of dogs that can be kept in a shelter at once.”
Stormy weather has wreaked havoc on a small shelter where everyone is tasked with finding a dry place. The shelter takes in dogs and cats from Riverbank, Oakdale and Escalon, and his indoor kennel is the only one of his 10 dogs. With more dogs needing shelter from the elements, it's proving difficult for staff to come up with a workable plan for all animals.
“Our staff are very creative in finding dry, warm places for the dogs, but this group of dogs are very sweet and get along well with other dogs, which makes it easier. “I've become one,” Crowley said. “It makes our job easier when they are so nice.”
Kim Haas, a volunteer at the shelter, agreed that the dogs are special because they have very friendly personalities.
“Most of these dogs have so many great traits that they are easy to welcome into your home, even with other animals and small children. All of our dogs are very well-mannered and gentle. , with training, they make beautiful companions and family pets.”
Crowley is asking the public to come to the shelter on Saturday, February 10th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and meet the dogs and cats living at the shelter. They will be looking forward to meeting their future family.
