Organizers of the annual Pet Rock Fest announced they are looking for a new venue for the event, which is usually held the Sunday following Labor Day weekend.
“Just like the dogs and kittens in our shelters, we are looking for new homes,” Pet Rock Fest Inc. says on its website. A similar message was conveyed in a newsletter emailed to followers at the end of February.
Last year's festival was held on September 10th at Scandinavian Athletic Club Park in Shrewsbury.
Pet Rock Fest Inc. was founded in 1999 as an animal welfare nonprofit organization and event and is now New England's largest animal festival and leading animal welfare organization, according to organizers. Co-founding partners from the beginning are Charlene Arsenault and Jeannie Hebert.
The festival features live music, vegetarian food, games, children's activities, pet-themed events, vendors, and animal welfare organizations. The 2023 music headliner was Ricky Duran. Proceeds will be distributed to Massachusetts-based shelters, abuse watchdog groups, rescue leagues and other organizations.
However, the festival had difficulty finding a permanent home. The festival, which began at the Hebert Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury for several years before traffic problems forced it to relocate, has expanded to include the Sturbridge Host Hotel, the former Becker College in Leicester and the Quinsigamond Community in Worcester.・It has been held at venues such as College and Wyman.
