“Pets of the Week” is a regular column highlighting adoptable pets at the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
Killer Whale: Male, black and white DSH, 6 months to 1 year.
Meet the orca! This cute boy is a major resident member here at FCAS's Cuddle Puddle. Along with some others, he loves cuddling on the catwalk. Killer whales are easily frightened and dislike sudden movements and loud noises. He gets sick a little more easily than other cats, but with treatment he recovers well. He is very social with cats so he has to go to a house where there are other cats. He is a really sweet boy and has the potential to become more social with people in a calm home environment.
Harriet: female, retriever mix, 3 years old
Teacher Harriet has lived with us at this shelter longer than any other animal here since she was abandoned on our doorstep in 2022. She is a very kind woman and she came to us with severe scabies and many other skin conditions. . Thanks to allergy testing, treatment, and lots of love, her skin has improved greatly. She has severe (literally substandard) allergies to many things, but most notably dust, dust mites of all kinds, ragweed, birch, hazelnut trees, and swamp elderberry. These allergies are very severe and require significant treatment, expense, and veterinary care. For this reason, Harriet must be taken to a veterinarian-approved home. She gets along well with children and other dogs as long as she is tolerant, as she can be a bit unruly with other dogs. However, Harriet does not like cats, so she is not recommended to go to a house with cats. She is very kind and gentle towards people and will definitely make you smile!
