IRON MOUNTAIN — We want to remind you all that you have one special pet.
The Daily News' popular Pet Idol Contest, now in its 11th year, invites area residents to share their favorite animal companion at home, whether it's a cat, dog, parrot or pony. Guinea pigs, goats, cows, lizards, snakes, pigeons, etc.
The public will then be invited to nominate who will be their next pet idol, with the first round of voting beginning on Wednesday, April 17th.
“Readers will be able to choose their favorite pet from the photos submitted.” said Daily News Publishing Director Jennifer Flynn.
This contest is a fundraiser for the Newspapers in Education program, which provides local school districts and teachers with newspapers to use in the classroom.
Eva, a 4-year-old white standard poodle owned by Liza and Russell Crum of Iron Mountain, was the 2023 Pet Idol winner. “You're doing well.” Lisa Crum said.
While serving as the face of the Daily News' NIE, Eva still had time this past year to become a service dog for Liza Crum, owner of Liza's Pampered Pets Grooming Salon in Kingsford. She has a problem that can affect her back and her hip, she said. her balance.
Liza Krum said Eva now knows how to accompany Krum up the stairs to keep him steady and to stand beside him and provide support to help him get back up if he falls. He plans to do so. Eva received formal certification as a service dog in October and is taking her new role very seriously, her owner said.
“When you put that vest on her, it's all work and no play.” Crum said.
The reigning Pet Idol winner appeared at the Daily News Spring Craft Show on March 16, where vendors and the public recognized her. “The dog that was in the newspaper” Crumb said.
Pet applications are being accepted until Wednesday, April 10th. To participate, readers must submit a photo of a live pet. Please do not submit. “In memory” entry.
Flynn said the contest is open to all types of creatures and there are no restrictions on entries. Of course, you can enter the same pet multiple times, but each time he requires a $5 donation.
There are no restrictions on voting either, and ballot stuffing is encouraged, she said, but each vote requires a 25-cent donation.
Proceeds will benefit the Newspapers in Education program, which provides local school districts and teachers with newspapers to use in the classroom.
Pet idol winners will be featured on the front page of the Daily News along with their owners and will also receive a trophy donated by BK Enterprises.
The eldest pet will also be the NIE program mascot for the 2024-25 school year.
The contest will have three rounds, with all entries competing first. After each round, the field is cut in half and the person with the most votes advances.
All votes carry over to each round.
Pet photos and ballots appear in the Daily News several times each week. Those wishing to vote may also make copies of their ballots or obtain additional ballots at the Daily He News office located at 215 E. Ludington St. in Iron Mountain.
In case of a tie, there will be a tie-break. All decisions are final and donations are non-refundable.
Daily News and Powers Printing employees and their immediate families are not eligible to win the contest.
Photos must be high quality, black and white or color, and at least 3 x 5 inches in size. Only one pet can be displayed per photo, and the photo must be of the pet only.
Entering a photo allows you to submit owner and pet information to the contest.
The Daily News reserves the right to reject any photo deemed inappropriate.

The Daily News must receive all entry forms and photos of your pet by close of business on Wednesday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
In addition to the pet's name, the entry form must include the owner's name, address, and phone number. Photos can be picked up at the Daily News office after the Sweepstakes ends.
Participation means entrant agrees to abide by the Official Rules and all decisions made by the Daily News regarding the Sweepstakes.
Ballots and donations can be submitted or mailed to the newspaper by the posted deadline.
Voting for the first round will be accepted from April 17th until close of business on May 1st. Voting for the second round will be open from May 6th until close of business on May 17th.
The third and final round of voting will take place from May 22nd until close of business on June 5th. Winners will be notified by phone and announced in a front page article at a later date.
