Allergy season is tough on all of us, but we also need to be mindful of our pet's allergies. Dr. Susan Bonilla from Passionate Paws Animal Hospital joined her Charlotte Today to share how she helps pets from her home.
First, I have a flea allergy. You'll usually find ticks near your pet's tail because they're irritating. Dogs can be allergic to flea saliva, so it's important to keep them up to date on flea and tick prevention.
Next is food allergies. Many dogs are allergic to foods containing feathers. If you notice your dog itching after eating, whether it's turkey or chicken, it may be best to switch to a dog food with beef instead.
Finally, there are environmental allergies. Your dog may have allergies just like you, and you can treat them the same way. You can also wash their paws with wet wipes, clean their ears, and give them Zyrtec. Check with your veterinarian for dosage.
If these treatments do not improve your pet's symptoms, contact Passionate Paws. For more information, visit PassionatePawsAnimalHospital.com.
