NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) – A Newton Township woman is facing charges of animal cruelty.
Patricia Johnson was charged on video Monday with two felony counts of companion animal prohibition after two animals in her care were found dead.
“This is clearly neglect. Both animals were malnourished and extremely thin,” said Trumbull County Sheriff Paul Monroe.
Deputies responded to the Kings Drive home around 2:15 p.m. Sunday after Johnson himself called 911 and asked dispatchers what to do.
911 call: “I came here, my dog, my son's dog, and he passed away, so I came back here, and the cat passed away. What should I do?”
The dog, named Little, and the cat, named Cookie, were inside Johnson's son's trailer on Kings Drive in Newton Township. Deputies say they found two empty bowls on the floor.
“There was urine stains and a strong odor of ammonia. There was feces all over the trailer, blood all over the trailer, and it looked like the dog was having some kind of internal bleeding. I could see it,” Monroe said.
Johnson, who lives in the same mobile home park, reportedly told deputies she had been caring for the animals since her son was arrested in December.
“The charged subject admitted that he had been busy that week and had not returned to the trailer for approximately a week,” Monroe said. “She looked out for her own needs and ignored the well-being of these poor animals.”
Johnson's bond was set at $2,500 with the condition that she does not own or own any animals. She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
