Phoenix (AZ Family)— Residents in north Phoenix are unhappy after one of their neighbors applied to sell guns and ammunition at his home.
“It's not the right place,” neighbor Michael Schettler said.
John Shaw and Ryan Giroux want to start King Tactical, LLC in one of their homes near 34th Street and Utopia Road. “It will be primarily an online business. There will be very little actual personal contact,” Giriu and Shaw said in a phone interview with the Arizona family.
The business sold guns, ammunition, and tactical equipment. “I think (the owner) is a good guy. This is nothing against him, it's nothing personal. This is a business. He wants to start a firearms business in our neighborhood. ,” Shetler said.
Shaw and Giriu say everything about business will be regulated. “All security and safety measures are being considered. All will be ATF compliant,” they said.
Schettler says it's not just about what a business sells, but what it turns into a home. “Just rezoning the commercial district in this area is really not going to cut it,” he said.
Shaw and Giriu said most people buy online, but they must pass a background check and make an appointment to receive their purchases.
The two add that running the business from their home is their starting point and hope to move to larger premises in the future.
“I think it's a lack of knowledge. I think they think it's not real,” Shaw and Giriu said.
Arizona's family contacted the City of Phoenix for an update on the application. A city spokesperson says:
